Yuck(h)
America, you have disappointed me again.
Khloe went from #960 in 2006 to #665 in 2007 to EFFING #196 in 2008. One thousand six hundred and eighty-seven girls were named Khloe in 2008 in our fair country.
Pretty impressive for a name that sounds exactly like you're hockin' a loogie.

Thats better than being called a really obscure name by your parents shortly before it became popularized by a football player and then became the biggest loser's name for the last 30 years - like happened to a friend of mine...
That's not as bad as this: there was this kid who used to go to school with me, and his name was Ben Dover. He got teased so freaking much, obviously.
I blame the Kardashians.
And myself for watching that stupid show ;)
As a teacher, I've seen my fair share of horrific names (Shithead comes to mind...). I thought I had heard it all, but trolling through your site makes me weep for the future. When will people realize that "fun," "spicy" names become crippling personality disorders as soon as their child's friends learn to talk? (And really, who the hell wants their four year old walking around with a "spicy" name? That just gives me the creeps.)
In short, thanks for the laughs and the site. It's fantastic.
A thought: in general, if a parent in an European country comes up with a Bright Idea for a name such as "Darth Maul" or some such, he/she:
1. gets told not to be silly
or
2. if the registry clerk is feeling charitable, the name will be appended to the actual name that will instead appear on documents
or even
3. the baby gets named after some of the clerk's relative before the hapless parent can say "do you think Azkaban Smith has a Ring to it?"
Hi, fun blog. made me smile. And no i'm not telling you my 3 kids names - ok - they're Chechnya (trouble), housebrick (solid) and Anne (what were we thinking!
keep it up and i'll keep checking in.
ta - Rodney (it haunts me daily)
Seriously it's about time someone made a blog like this! lol. Sometimes it baffles me the things that people name their kids... and check out the "trends" already for 2009... not so crazy about those either http://www.babyhold.com/babynames/Popular/Popular_Baby_Name_Trends_for_2009/
What about when parents have their kid's names rhyme? Like the Flander's "Mod, Todd, and Rod." (who would name their kid Rod?) Or start with the same letter, etc?
Here are my nephew's names: Kasin and Karter from one sis, and Ryder and Ryker from the other. Now I love my sisters and my nephews, but....seriously?
As for my name; my mom wanted to name me Shelby but my grandmother thought that was an ugly girl's name. Instead, she named me after an 80's soap operah actress she loved.
So Q: what would you chose for names? Bob and Sarah? or Wjdsihbhjs and Pdsajigiuw?
Amazing sense of humor.I havent encounter a blog so fun before.
cool site:) I like it
I live in a state (Utah) where people go CRAZY with their kids' names. It drives me nuts. Anyway, my friends and I discuss this topic all the time and I really enjoyed reading your posts just now. I am starting a blog tournament blog (that sounds redundant) and I wondered if you wanted to participate in the very first tournament. Come visit at blogtournaments.blogspot.com (and email me) if you want to join in. I think your blog could do well. Thanks for covering a topic that NEEDS coverage. :)
thank you

How about Oustreverta? Mean freakin' parents to stick a kid with that name. Nice little girl in a class where I once substituted and had NO nickname!
I've just found this blog via StumbleUpon - I do love that tool!
I totally agree with almost everything I've read so far.
A lot of people just shouldn't be allowed to name their own children. Infact, should they even be allowed to conceive in the first place?
Everyone always calls me Chloe and with a K it's even worse!!!
Chloe actually is a very nice name.
Come to think about it - it was the name of a nice girl from a antique novel - one of the classic ones.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/9d/1880_Pierre_Auguste_Cot_-_The_Storm.jpg, if you fancy to check the classical image.
Daphnis and Chloe - if you really want to digg it! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daphnis_and_Chloe
Just a thought, what names do you like? Like, what would you consider acceptable enough to maybe be used as your own kids names?

I prefer Khlooeeyei. LOL.
I'm curious to know what you think of our son's name. He is Conrad Thomas.

please come back! where are you??
I work in a high school and unusual named are known as "soulful" ... I understand... there are not cute or funny names - but there are cultural names too. Coming from a Mom who's son hates his first name Todd and uses his middle name Robert - what can I say? Jennifer
What a horrible way to spell Chloe- A classic Greek name!
Bleh!
TurabianNights, please come back to the interwebs. I have been checking your blog intermittently for years, and I miss fresh snark from you. Please proffer up a supplement of wit this spring. Merci in advance.
I love what you're trying to achieve with this blog! Keep up the good work.

Chloe/Kloe is a very nice name but Klo means toilet in German. Apparently it's short for Klosette, which come to think of it, also sounds like an unfortunate name someone might have.
Blame the all K named Kardashian family and thier unexplainable fame.
Why are those stupid Kardashians in the news anyway? They're common trash. Now, if my wife were expecting and we knew the baby was a girl we'd name her Gertrude.
haha, I've always liked the name 'Chloe' but then I realized it meant 'green shoot' or 'blossoming' - not that that's terrible or anything, but ... not so great either, imo. Now that it's a fad, it's kind of lost all appeal. The most annoying thing is all the mommies I've known to have used it think they're being unique in doing so ... o_0
I love your blog! You are so witty and your humor brings out what these crazy parents should already know! It never fails to shock me what these people think of.
Say what you want about my name :p

Is Khloe not the original Greek spelling of the name? Just wondering if it was in any way linked to the name Kleopatra (as in Queen Kleopatra Ptolemy of Egypt *who was Greek*)
